CASE STUDIES IN CLINICAL CHILD PSYCHOLOGY

Abstract

The symposium “Case studies in child clinical psychology” presents the description of clinical cases and detailed psychological interventions that have been applied to each of them. After a brief conceptualization of the disorder, assessment tools and treatment techniques will be discussed as well as the results achieved, and the therapeutic success. The symposium aims to promote the exchange of knowledge in clinical practice between practitioners and researchers.

Mireia Orgilés is a Full Professor in the area of ​​Personality, Evaluation and Psychological Treatment at the Miguel Hernández University in Elche (Spain). Since the beginning in 2010, she is the Director of the Master’s Degree in Psychological Therapy on Children and Adolescents. Her research focuses on the evaluation and treatment of emotional problems in children and adolescents, especially anxiety disorders. She is the author, among others, of the manuals such as Tratando… fobia a la oscuridad en la infancia y adolescencia (In English: “Treating … phobia of darkness in childhood and adolescence”), Terapia psicológica con niños y adolescentes (In English: “Psychological therapy with children and adolescents”), and Ansiedad por separación (In English: ““Separation anxiety”), as well as the guide titled El niño con miedo a la oscuridad (In English: “The child with fear of the dark”) published by PsicoCuentos collection. As a result of her contribution in scientific journals and congresses, she has received the Young Researcher Prize twice, with which the Miguel Hernández University recognizes the relevant trajectory of young researchers. She has also been awarded the Teacher Talent Award in 2014 and 2016, in recognition of the quality of her teaching. She is a member of the AITANA research group and associate editor of the Revista de Psicología Clínica con Niños y Adolescentes (In English: Journal of Clinical Psychology with Children and Adolescents). Her teaching and research activity complements with clinical practice, being an advisor of the Child Therapy Unit of the University Clinic at the Miguel Hernández University in Elche.
