TRANSSEXUALISM IN CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE

Children and adolescents with a transgender identity are increasingly requesting help. In the course of this professional activity the first step that we must overcome is the consideration of being considered as a disorder, depathologization becomes something more than a claim of groups of activists, the works of various authors. For example, Olson et al. indicate that when a transgender child is supported in the family and in the school context, development is obtained in a healthy way. These works have been confirmed by the first results of a multicenter WHO study confirming that the mental disorders detected in transgender people are due to context pressure and not to transsexuality. Based on this data, the present symposium focus on:
1. Updating the current status of international publications on this topic, with an emphasis on conceptual consideration. Presenting the psychological and relational contents in 70 studied cases.
2. Presenting the contents that arise in the families with a transgender child, their feelings, their difficulties, and the possibilities to continue advancing in the process.
3. Examining preventive interventions and provide considerations to be developed in schools and in the health context.
4. Analyzing day-to-day life experience of the transgender teenager.
