New Contributions to Research on Self-Injurious Behavior in Children and Adolescents

Over the past five years, research on suicidal and non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors in children and adolescents has experienced significant growth. This trend is partly due to the alarming increase in these behaviors within this population, as well as improved detection capabilities driven by initiatives from academic, educational, healthcare, and social sectors.

The primary objective of this symposium is to present and discuss the latest scientific contributions and new evidence in this field. It will include new findings related to conceptualization, advances in assessment procedures—including detection, risk estimation, and the identification of associated variables—along with the most recent proposals for prevention and intervention at different levels: universal, selective, and indicated.

To this end, the symposium will present the latest results and evidence obtained by various research groups. The ultimate goal is to foster a space for exchange and reflection on key advancements in this highly relevant topic, contributing to the improvement of psychosocial, clinical, and educational practices.
