Clinical cases in child and adolescent psychology: from theory to practice

Mental health in children and adolescents has gained increasing importance in today’s society, as evidenced by the growing demand for psychological care and the emergence of more complex cases. Although numerous evidence-based tools are available for assessment, diagnosis, and intervention, selecting the most appropriate ones for each individual case remains a challenging task for professionals.

To achieve effective clinical practice, it is not only crucial to apply scientifically supported procedures but also to develop competencies that allow for an accurate interpretation of each patient’s specific difficulties—difficulties that increasingly do not fit within traditional diagnostic systems. Additionally, interventions must be adapted to the clinical formulation of each case.

This symposium will bring together four experienced therapists in the field of child and adolescent psychology, who will present real clinical cases illustrating different approaches to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. The main objective is to provide a practical perspective on the use of evidence-based strategies for addressing complex psychological problems in this population. Through the discussion of these cases, the symposium aims to foster a dynamic learning environment at the AITANA Congress, helping attending psychologists improve their clinical decision-making and achieve better outcomes in their practice.
