Key factors in the assessment and intervention of self-injurious behavior, suicidal and non-suicidal
Self-injurious behaviors, both suicidal and non-suicidal, in the adolescent and young population remain a significant health issue that requires the attention of healthcare professionals and educators in general, and particularly psychologists. It has become a challenge for research and professional practice to respond to the high prevalence and the needs for prevention and intervention to reduce this problem.
This symposium aims to highlight those key variables that research and clinical and educational practice have emphasized, which can represent relevant targets for assessment and intervention at their levels of universal, selective, and indicated action. The goal is to emphasize these variables as both dynamic and static processes and factors whose modification short-circuits the onset and/or maintenance of self-injurious behaviors, allowing for the proper management of their prevention in their dynamic and interactive transition from vulnerability to self-injurious ideation and action.
