ADDRESSING HOLISTIC HEALTH IN CHILDHOOD OBESITY: NEW PERSPECTIVES ON PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTION FROM PRIMARY CARE

Due to its high prevalence and serious consequences, childhood obesity is one of the most significant current public health issues. Children with obesity have a higher risk of psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, or body dissatisfaction, and are more likely to suffer from bullying and stigmatization. The complexity of the etiology and psychological comorbidities of childhood obesity necessitates the implementation of multidisciplinary and innovative interventions that improve the overall health of children, beyond just weight management. The aim of this monographic session is to present findings from various novel approaches for comprehensive intervention in childhood obesity.

The first presentation will showcase the results of a psychofamily intervention program, specifically the findings on the barriers perceived by families regarding adherence to the program.

The second presentation will display the results of the pilot study of the ENTREN-Galaxy program, based on gamification and e-Health, created to overcome the barriers identified in the previous program and to increase children’s motivation.

The third presentation will discuss the existing challenges in modifying at-risk eating styles in this population (e.g., emotional or restrictive eating) based on data obtained from previous studies. Subsequently, the ENTREN-ZEN-Galaxy program, a new mindful eating program with gamification for childhood obesity, will be introduced.

The fourth presentation will outline the training program in Motivational Interviewing for childhood obesity designed to equip primary care nursing professionals with the necessary tools. Additionally, the results of a survey conducted among nurses in the Community of Madrid regarding their needs and challenges in addressing childhood obesity will be presented.
